Guidelines for Test Preparation Service Providers

Paragon encourages organizations to develop and deliver test preparation programs for Paragon’s CELPIP™, CAEL™, and LPI™ English language proficiency tests. These Guidelines for Test Preparation Service Providers explain how organizations that provide test preparation services for Paragon’s CELPIP™, CAEL™, and LPI™ English language proficiency tests can do so in a way that is respectful of Paragon’s rights and is not misleading to consumers.

  1. Test Preparation Materials

Paragon sells test preparation materials (e.g. study guides and practice tests) to assist individuals to prepare for the CELPIP™, CAEL™, and LPI™ English language proficiency tests. Paragon’s test preparation materials are protected by copyright. You may purchase Paragon’s test preparation materials on behalf of your students, but you may not copy or reproduce, publish, display, distribute, rent or create derivative works (including translations) of any of Paragon’s test preparation materials (in whole or in part) or authorize any other person do to so.

  1. Status/No False Advertising

You may not represent, suggest, or imply that you have any relationship whatsoever with Paragon, or that you have been authorized, accredited or approved by Paragon to offer test preparation services for any of the CELPIP™, CAEL™, and LPI™ English language proficiency tests.

  1. Branding

PARAGON™, CELPIP™, CAEL™, LPI™, LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY INDEX™, CANADIAN ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY INDEX TEST™, CANADIAN ACADEMIC ENGLISH LANGUAGE ASSESSMENT™ and the Leaf Design Logo are registered and unregistered trademarks owned by Paragon. You may not use any of those trademarks, or any other mark that is confusingly similar to any of those trademarks, for your own products or services, or in any way that is likely to cause consumer confusion, or in any way that suggests or implies that you have any kind of relationship with Paragon.

This means that you may not use Paragon’s name or any of Paragon’s trademarks in your advertising or marketing materials (including media releases) except in a fair and descriptive manner that is not likely to cause consumer confusion. Here are some examples:

  • Permissible advertising:  “We offer preparation services for the CELPIP™ English language proficiency test”.
  • Prohibited advertising: “We are a CELPIP™ preparation centre” or “We offer CELPIP™ test preparation services”.
  1. Prohibited Personnel

Paragon’s employees and other personnel, and individuals who work at any of Paragon’s Authorized Test Centres (where CELPIP™, CAEL™, and LPI™ English language proficiency tests are conducted) may not be involved, directly or indirectly, in providing test preparation services for any CELPIP™, CAEL™, or LPI™ English language proficiency test.

  1. No Cheating

CELPIP™, CAEL™, and LPI™ English language proficiency tests are intended to measure a test candidate’s actual proficiency in the English language. The integrity and accuracy of the CELPIP™, CAEL™, and LPI™ English language proficiency tests is of paramount importance to Paragon and to Canadian government ministries and other organizations that rely on test results to reflect an individual’s actual proficiency in the English language.

The terms and conditions that govern the CELPIP™, CAEL™, and LPI™ English language proficiency tests prohibit any kind of cheating by a test candidate (including giving answers that are memorized or copied from other sources) or assisting any person to cheat or otherwise impair the integrity of any test score.

This means that you may not help or encourage any person to attempt to cheat on a CELPIP™, CAEL™, or LPI™ English language proficiency test, including by attempting to memorize answers to questions asked on those tests. In addition, you should not collect or use any of the actual questions from the CELPIP™, CAEL™, or LPI™ English language proficiency tests, including by having any individual take a test in order to record or memorize test questions. To avoid inadvertently doing so, we strongly recommend that you do not employ or engage as an instructor any person who has previously taken a CELPIP™, CAEL™, or LPI™ English language proficiency test.
